Elizabeth Menges creates her work the same way she creates her life. Her Egg Temperas features portraits of people that have impacted her life. Her carvings similarly exhibit her passion for Byzantine iconography and wood carving. The diligence and care she puts in designing, sanding, and staining the carving’s wooden frames display her affection for the process. She weaves too her humor into the embroideries she creates. The up-close and personal paintings of her work she titled “Portrait of marriage” will make viewers understand the emotions involved in its creation. Based in Rhode Island, Menges’ work sees no difference between the life she leads as a mother, and her profession as a teacher. She is also a wife, a member of the Greek/Cypriot community, and a feminist. All these she incorporates in her art, or more so, art is incorporated in her life.
